Bengaluru: Rowdy shot at, arrested in Lakshman’s murder case
Bengaluru: In yet another arrest in rowdy Lakshman's murder, Central Crime Branch sleuths shot at rowdy Akash in Uttarahalli and arrested him.
Akash alias Malerai (24) is a resident of Soldevanahalli and was absconding since the murder of Lakshman Kumar (42), a notorious rowdy, near Iskcon Temple in Mahalakshmi Layout on March 7.
Akash was among the 5-6 member gang that hacked Lakshman to death, the police said. Following the arrest of rowdy Raj alias Cat Raj, rowdy Hemanth alias Hemi and six other accused, including Lakshman's girlfriend Varshini, and her boyfriend Roopesh, the police learnt about the involvement of Akash in the murder.
Earlier, the police shot at Raj and Hemanth too before arresting them as they attacked the policemen in a bid to escape.
On Wednesday morning, the police recieved a tipoff on Akash's whereabouts. A team of CCB, led by Inspector Murugendraiah, headed to Poornaprajna Nagar in Uttarahalli where Akash was seen around 5 am.
When the cops reached the spot, Head Constable Arun went to arrest Akash but the accused sprayed pepper spray on the police officer's face and attacked him in a bid to escape. Mr Murugendraiah shot him in the leg to neutralise him.
Both Arun and Akash were rushed to a hospital after which Akash was taken into custody.
So far, the police have arrested nine people, including three notorious rowdies, in the case. Sources said that the murder plan was hatched by Varshini (21), a psychology graduate from London and daughter of a JD(S) leader from Maddur. Varshini and Roopesh were in a relationship over the last few years and it was Roopesh who asked Varshini to trap Lakshman. Soon after, Varshini and Lakshman had started dating.
The police suspect the involvement of more rowdies in the murder and are making efforts to arrest all the accused.
