Telangana cops miss top posts
HYDERABAD: In a recent major Indian Police Service (IPS) re-shuffle done a few months ago, before the state goes in to an election mood, a large number of IPS officers of the 38 transferred do not belong to the Telugu states and have got postings in top positions raising many eye balls.
The city police chief’s position has been allocated to additional director general Anjani Kumar. Second in command for the city is IG Devendra Singh Chauhan, additional commissioner of police, law & order. Another prime post of the state police — additional DG (law & order) was given to former head of city traffic, additional DG, Jitender.
Additional commissioner of police (crime & SIT) is now headed by Inspector General (IG) Shikha Goel which is also a crucial seat. All plump posts, at least in the city range police, has none from the home top police, despite few names of officers from Telangana making rounds.
The chief sources told that Cyberabad too has a non-Telugu force. “Election is one of the triggering factors of the transfer. It is known that certain officers have an inclination towards political parties. And this might prove costly during elections,” he said.
There was a surprise element during the recent IAS transfers as well. The state in January ordered a reshuffle of 27 bureaucrats. Though many were aware of the transfer, they did not see it coming this early.
Many are suspicious about few officers getting a plump post. Especially, when officer Arvind Kumar (now positioned as principal secretary, MAUD), who was removed from the industries department a year ago, as he raised his voice against the purchase of power from Chhattisgarh. Another surprise was the posting of B.R. Meena as the special chief secretary. The officer played a vital role in unearthing the Miyapur scam.
