Visakhapatnam: With the increasing number of e-commerce businesses, online buyers have also increased rapidly in the city. There is a strong need for bringing awareness among the people that the rights listed under the Consumer Protection Act also applies to e-shoppers. Visakha Consumers’ Council (VCC) celebrates World Consumer Rights Day every year on March 15 to create awareness about consumer rights and needs. It has declared that the theme for this year will be ‘Making digital marketplaces fairer’.
As a part of the celebrations, the council would conduct wide publicity about the consumer movement through group discussions, debates, street plays, meeting and conferences at various educational institutions of the city. According to VCC secretary Dr P. Rama Rao, the council has been protecting the rights of the consumers in the city ever since its foundation during 1973. World Consumer Rights Day was first observed by the US President John F. Kennedy on March 15, 1962.
