Centre asks states to tackle online radicalisation by terror groups

Terrorist outfits use various platforms, including online portals to propagate their ideology.

New Delhi: The states have been asked to formulate a framework to meet potential challenges of radicalisation in cyberspace and misuse of social media, the Centre said on Tuesday.

Responding to a written question, Minister of State for Home Affairs, Hansraj Gangaram Ahir informed the Lok Sabha that meetings under the chairmanship of Home Minister and Home Secretary have been held wherein states were advised to formulate a framework to tackle radicalisation through internet and social media.

He said it was the firm stand of the government not to arrest or harass anyone for alleged radicalisation in the absence of solid evidence.

"The terrorist outfits use various platforms, including online portals to propagate their ideology. The intelligence and security agencies maintain a close watch to identify those engaged in such anti-national activities and action is initiated against them under relevant laws," the minister said.
