Mysuru: Tension prevailed in Mysuru Sunday evening after a 39-year-old BJP worker was murdered near Netaji Circle in Udaygiri police station limits. The deceased has been identified as Raju, a resident of Kyathamaranahalli. A bandh has been called in Mysuru by saffron outfits on Monday to protest against the murder.
Raju was standing near a tea shop when a few men, who arrived on a bike, allegedly attacked him with a sickle. Raju died on the spot and his body was shifted to KR Hospital Mortuary.
Mysuru police commissioner, Mr B. Dayanand faced a tough situation with the crowd reportedly surrounding him and demanding that the assailants be traced. In the melee, the police commissioner’s nameplate was reportedly torn from his shirt.
The VHP, which claimed that Raju was a Hindu activist, urged the state government to arrest the culprits and hand over the inquiry to the CBI.
State BJP president Pralhad Joshi said in Bengaluru that Raju was involved in social activity and was instrumental in opening a Ganapathi Temple in his locality which, he claimed had invited the wrath of some people. This could be the reason for the murder, he said.
