Lorries with RBI coins worth Rs 2.52 crore stopped in Namakkal district

The documents were sent by the bank to the tashildar office through fax.

Namakkal: Four container lorries containing coins in different denominations worth Rs 2.52 crore were seized by officials of the election flying squad in Namakkal district on Sunday, but were released later after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) adduced proof.

During an inspection, a team of officials led by RDO M. Kannan intercepted the container lorries at Keerambur toll gate in Namakkal and seized the money as they were ostensibly carried without any documents. The containers were then taken to the tashildar office.

The huge loads of coins were taken from RBI in Hyderabad to Kerala. Officials released all the four containers with the cash load after the bank staff produced valid documents later in the afternoon. The documents were sent by the bank to the tashildar office through fax. As the news of cash seizure spread, people from the neighbouring areas thronged the tashildar office to have a glimpse of the money kept in the containers.
