Jeevan Reddy questions Maharashtra accord, fuels KCR's ire
Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao criticised Congress MLA T. Jeevan Reddy in the Assembly on Sunday for questioning the MoU with the Maharashtra government over the sharing of Godavari waters.
During a debate on the motion of thanks for the Governor’s address, Mr Jeevan Reddy said the accord “permanently mortgaged the interests of Telangana.” He said in the name of redesigning the projects, not one had been constructed so for. All work on the Pranahita-Chevella had been halted, causing loss to the exchequer.
He said by ensuring reduction of the Tam-midihatti dam height from 152 to 148 metres, Mr Rao had succumbed to pressure from Maharashtra.
In his reply, Mr Rao said, “Jeevan Reddy contested against me in the Karimnagar Lok Sabha byelections. He was all praise for then Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, and help up placards stating “Jalayagnam Devuniki Votla Naivedyam (offering votes to the god of Jalayagnam). What great things has your god (late YSR) done for Telangana?”
He mentioned the YSR government constructing the Pothireddypadu regulator to divert Krishna waters to Rayalaseema. completing the Pulichintala dam by deploying 600 armed police to prevent Telangana leaders from protesting and executing the Pranahita-Chevella project without planning a single major reservoir.
“Did you not say a person like YSR should have been born in Telangana? You were flattering YSR and supported him when he was doing injustice to Telangana,” he said.
