Hyderabad: Rural areas have fewer options of drinking water
Hyderabad: Except for drawing polluted water from ponds and lakes, there is no option for drinking water in the rural areas of Rangareddy district, especially in its western part. People from Orduru tanda, a tribal habitation near Peddemula mandal, are depending on such ponds for drinking water.
Under Chevella division, nearly 126 bore-wells connected to overhead tanks have dried up. The problem has sent alarm bells ringing in Mondivagu, Kammeta and Alur villages in Chevella mandal as well as Tangutoor and Jan-wada in Shankarpally mandal, Bakaram, Ethbarpally and Reddypally in Moinabad.
People from these villages held a protest and gheraoed Chevella MP Konda Visweswar Reddy a fortnight ago. Members at the zilla parishad last week criticised officials over the water problem. The Ranga Reddy district collector sanctioned Rs 40 crore for providing drinking water.
