The pillion rider, M. Suresh, 21, escaped with injuries. He has been admitted to a private hospital in Anna Nagar.

Chennai: A 32-year-old man, working in an automobile company, was killed and an engineering student suffered injuries when the bike on which they were travelling lost control and hit the side wall of Madhavaram flyover and got thrown off near Puzhal cycle shop bus stop on Sunday.

According to Madhavaram traffic investigation wing police, the two were travelling towards Maduravoyal when the rider, Jegan Kumar of Tambaram, lost control of the bike and hit the sidewall while descending. Both were thrown off the bridge and Jagan Kumar was killed on the spot.

The pillion rider, M. Suresh, 21, escaped with injuries. He has been admitted to a private hospital in Anna Nagar. Body of the deceased was shifted to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for post mortem. Traffic on the road was affected for nearly 30 minutes after residents staged a road roko demanding the authorities to take actions to prevent road accidents in the area.

According to them, lack of speed breakers on either side of the bridge was causing a problem. The height of the parapet wall is also an issue of concern as the height was below normal. Local residents said that they would petition the Tiruvallur district collector highlighting the issue.
