Chennai: A student of private engineering college died and two others were injured when two speeding bikes collided on GST Road near Thialavaram in neighbouring Kancheepuram well past midnight on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Suriya, 19, a BE second year student of SRM college in Kattangulathur. He was native of Kambam, Theni. He was travelling on a bike along with two other students Karthik, 19, of Theni, who was riding the bike and Venkat of Uthiramerur in Kancheepuram. While Suriya died on the spot, the other two injured were taken to SRM hospital.

Student riders of the other bike – Suman, from Karim Nagar, Telangana and Sivaji of Kurnoor from Andhra Pradesh - escaped with minor injuries, the police said. Police said that riders of the first bike were going to their place of stay when the accident happened. It looks like that both the bikes were speeding at around 1 am on GST Road and when Karthik slowed down his vehicle to turn right when his bike was hit by the two-wheeler closely following his vehicle.
