Bengaluru: Buoyed by the growing popularity of its luxury 'Flybus' operations that directly connect the Kempe Gowda International Airport with a few cities in South India, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is now planning to start new operation from Majestic.
The buses that are being operated from other cities now do not cater to Bengaluru airport passengers because of their route. “Flybuses coming from Mysuru take a turn on Nice Road before Kengeri which will be difficult for Bengaluru passengers to board. We were requesting KSRTC to start services from Majestic. We are happy now that it is planning to start a service," said Puneeth P., a passenger.
The service was launched in 2013 with the first bus running between KIA and Mysuru. Over the last few years, Madikeri, Kundapur, Coimbatore via Salem and Tirupati have been added. Eight high-end buses run 16 round trips between KIA and Mysuru every day.
“The four-hour journey from Mysuru to Bengaluru airport is popular among passengers, who are happy that these buses avoid Bengaluru traffic and also have the toilet facility. Many airport passengers from Bengaluru too were demanding a Flybus service as these buses have better facilities. We will start the service in the next few days,” said a KSRTC senior official, requesting anonymity.
The cost of the ticket on these multi-axle 46-seater buses from Mysuru is Rs 800. In the first quarter of this financial year, over 76,000 passengers have used the service. Over 2 lakh passengers availed the services during the financial year 2017-2018.
