Karnataka: Rebels return but will they stay?

The four legislators came back to Bengaluru early Wednesday morning and attended the session.

Bengaluru: Notwithstanding their posturing that they had no differences with the party and they had come back to attend the session, the four Congress rebels, Ramesh Jarkiholi, Mahesh Kumatalli, B. Nagendra and Umesh Jadhav seems to be more concerned about making a politicaly correct statement to avoid disqualification.

The four legislators came back to Bengaluru early Wednesday morning and attended the session. After that, home minister, M.B. Patil who is from Vijayapura, held parleys with the four over lunch, party sources said.

However, the minister seems to have made no headway in breaking the ice. On Wednesday evening, Mr Ramesh Jarkiholi threw a dinner for many ‘like-minded’ MLAs at a hotel leading to more speculation.

One of the issues that the four reportedly discussed among themselves was: they had gone too far and staying back in the Congress party would not pay any dividends. "Even if they stay back, the party would cut them to size and give no posts in the long run. So, they seem to have decided to move out of the party. They may wait till the outcome of the disqualification proceedings and then take a decision.
