Hosur, Nagercoil to be upgraded as corporations
Chennai: Hosur and Nagercoil municipalities in the state will be upgraded as corporations. The move gives effect to the announcement by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami during the MGR centenary celebrations in Krishnagiri and Kanyakumari districts.
Introducing the bills to give effect to the Chief Minister's announcements, municipal administration minister S. P. Velumani said the two municipalities would be upgraded as corporations. "Accordingly the State government has decided to undertake legislation adopting the provisions of the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation Act, 1981 with such modifications as are necessary," the Minister said.
As corporations the two civic bodies will get an elected mayor each. While addressing the meeting in Hosur Mr. Palaniswami said the municipality would be upgraded as corporation owing to the increase in population and industrial development. Eight nearby panchayats would be integrated with Hosur, he had said
