Bengaluru: Paint godown gutted in Nelamangala

Though no casualties were reported, the godown, belonging to a paint manufacturing company, was gutted.

Bengaluru: Thick plume of smoke covered the sky in Nelamangala's Madanayakanahalli on Wednesday following a massive fire, allegedly due to short circuit, at a godown in Kuduregere colony on the city outskirts.

Though no casualties were reported, the godown, belonging to a paint manufacturing company, was gutted.

The fire was first spotted at the gowdown, located behind the International Exhibition Center, at around 12:30 pm and within minutes it spread to the entire gowdown, sparking panic among the local residents.

Sixteen fire tenders from Nelamangala, Bengaluru and Tumkuru, with over 70 fire fighters, were pressed into service.

"There were several oil cans and barrels kept in the godown. The fire became intense because of the oil and it took over two hours for us to douse it," a senior fire official said.

While it was suspected that the fire was triggered by a short circuit, the police do not rule out sabotage.

Bengaluru Rural S.P. Shivakumar confirmed that no casualties were reported as no workers were present at the time of the incident.

Madanayakanahalli police have registered a case and begun investigation.
