Cochin Shipyard explosion: Police registers case, forms special probe team
Kochi: Kerala Police on Tuesday evening lodged a case and formed a special team to inquire into the explosion on a drill ship dry-docked at the Cochin Shipyard. "A case has been taken under Cr PC 174. It's to ascertain the cause of death and to rule out other angles like sabotage. A team headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Thrikkakara, was constituted to probe the case and file a report," said a senior police officer.
The cops have already deployed its personnel at the accident site to restrict human entry from outside. A team of experts from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Thiruvananthapuram, is slated to visit the site on Wednesday and collect evidences. A separate probe will also be conducted by the Director General (Shipping) and also by the Factories and Boilers Head.
