New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday said it will examine the constitutional validity of the Aadhaar law passed by Parliament in 2016 as a Money Bill, though prima facie it did not agree with petitioner’s submissions.
A bench of Chief Justice J.S. Khehar and Justice N.V. Ramana told senior counsel P. Chidambaram, appearing for Congress MP, Jairam Ramesh, who had challenged the Aadhaar law, “Tentatively we do not agree with you but we shall hold a detailed hearing after four weeks.”
At the outset Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi for the Centre submitted that the plea is not maintainable as the decision of the Speaker to certify a particular Bill as a ‘Money Bill’ is not subject to judicial review.
