Eamcet to go, if national tests for all streams come
Hyderabad: The Union Government is thinking of having single national entrance tests not just for engineering but also for courses in agriculture, pharmacy and other professional courses. The National Testing Agency, mentioned by finance minister Arun Jaitley in the present Union Budget, will be tasked with the responsibility of overseeing different national tests for different streams, according to TSCHE chairman Prof. T. Papi Reddy.
“NEET is for medical and dental admissions across the country. Likewise, another test will be held for engineering admissions. There is also a proposal to conduct national tests for filling seats in other streams like agriculture, veterinary and pharmacy,” he said here on Monday. He said quoting officials that the Centre will consult states and stakeholders before it finalised the modalities for other entrance tests.
Eamcet-2017 is on for filling engineering and agriculture-related streams and these are early days to comment about the state entrance tests for next year. “One thing is certain. As and when national tests come into being, there will be no need to conduct Eamcet. This is the same for all states. Remember, it took four to five years before NEET was fully implemented,” the TSCHE chairman said.
