Modi trying to shield corrupt persons in Delhi: Manish Sisodia
New Delhi: Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Sunday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of trying to "shield corrupt persons" in the national capital.
On the first anniversary of the AAP dispensation, the Delhi government on Sunday organised a 'phone-in programme' where Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his cabinet colleagues took questions from people for an hour over phone and Twitter.
Responding to a query by one Abhishek on Twitter, Sisodia said, "Modi ji is fully trying to protect corrupt persons in Delhi. Delhi Assembly had passed Janlokpal Bill which has been sent to the Centre for its approval. Once it is approved from the Centre, Lokpal will nab these persons (corrupt)," he said.
Abhishek had asked why the Delhi government does not talk to the Prime Minister to take over the Delhi Police. Responding to another question by a caller, the Deputy
Chief Minister said when the AAP had formed its government, Delhi government's Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) was doing well to apprehend "corrupt persons".
"When ACB was working under the government, there was fear among officers. And, central government's advocates were also requesting the courts to protect the police personnel from ACB," Sisodia said.
Earlier in the day, Kejriwal announced a waiver of water bills pending till November last year on the occasion of his government completing one year in office.
The total value of the pending bills across categories is Rs 2,854.80 crore. The government also decided to waive the payment of late fee and that will cost it another Rs 923.27 crore.
Giving an account of the works undertaken in the last 12 months by the Delhi government, Kejriwal said they have not let a single penny of taxpayers' money go "waste".
