Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, on Sunday said that ex-servicemen are being roped in to help the security forces and the government in their ‘decisive fight” against terrorism in the Union Territory.

“Terrorism in J&K is breathing its last breath and the police, the Army, and CAPFs (Central Armed Police Forces) are working in close coordination to defeat the nefarious designs of neighbouring country to disrupt peace in J&K,” Mr. Sinha said while speaking at a function held in Jammu’s Raj Bhawan to mark the Armed Forces Veterans’ Day.

He added, “In the recent security review meeting, I advocated that ex-servicemen including officers and jawans and retired policemen should be roped in for the decisive fight against terrorism. I’m sure they will continue to make their important contribution to the endeavour.”

Lt. Governor assured the ex-servicemen and the families of the fallen soldiers that their welfare was the top priority of his administration. He also said, “The nation will forever remain indebted to our soldiers, who are safeguarding the unity, integrity, and sovereignty of the country”.

He said that Rs 25 lakh given as ex-gratia for the family of a fallen soldier was too less and, therefore, he will ensure that the amount is raised this year only. He also said that the J&K administration will allot land in both Kashmir Valley and Jammu region for the construction of Sainik colonies for the families and NoKs of the fallen heroes.

He reiterated, “J&K has witnessed drastic improvements in the last four years, for which you all have worked throughout your life”. He added, “Today, J&K is marching ahead on the path of growth and prosperity. After Independence, J&K has seen the highest footfall of tourists. ”
