Pothole accident: Police summon BBMP officials

Palike men booked for endangering the life of victim.

Bengaluru: Whitefield police have summoned BBMP officials to conduct an inquiry into an accident, where a 27-year-old BPO employee fell from his motorcycle on Tuesday night after hitting a pothole and sustained grievous injuries.

Based on the complaint filed by the victim's brother, the police have charged BBMP officials under section 338 (Causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of IPC.

The victim, Girish N., a resident of Horamavu, was heading to office on his motorcycle to attend first day of his work.

When he reached Simanathana Lake near Nallurhalli, a speeding car with high beam lights went past. Since that stretch was filled with potholes, Girish lost balance and fell on the road. He sustained multiple injuries and passers-by shifted him to a private hospital.

Girish's younger brother Murali N. said that Girish sustained multiple fracture injuries and cut on his lips and eyebrows. The family is running from pillar to post to arrange money for his treatment.

Fortunately Girish was wearing a helmet, otherwise he might have even lost his life, Murali told police.

The police have summoned the BBMP officials to identify the officials concerned with road maintenance in that area and plan to initiate legal action.
