Hyderabad: Buddha relics enshrined on Mahindra Hills
Hyderabad: The corporeal relics of the Buddha, which were received from the Venerable Ajahn Dtun Thiracitto from Thailand, were enshrined on a stupa which was built in Amaravati style at the Mahabodhi Buddha Vihara on Mahindra Hills in Secunderabad on Sunday morning.
Venerable Bhikkhu Bodhi from the US spoke about the significance of the stupa and said it was a very auspicious sign that the holy relics of the Buddha which belonged to India had returned to the country. He said the message of the Buddha is universal and could bring happiness to all segments of society.
Retired IPS officer Mr C. Anjaneya Reddy said the Telugu land had a rich Buddhist heritage dating to the time of the Buddha himself.
“Numerous stupas, chaityas and monasteries are on the Telugu land, showing that there was a large Buddhist following. With the passage of time, it slowly disappeared but presently it is showing signs of revival,” Mr Anjaneya Reddy said.
