Hyderabad: 300 challans pending on buses, says official

If we see the list of RTC buses on our city roads, almost all of them will have pending challans.

Hyderabad: RTC buses in the city have unpaid challans pending against them for years for offences ranging from jumping the red light to wrong parking.

Hyderabad DCP, traffic, said that they send notices to the concerned parties to pay the challans on time, but in vain.

If we see the list of RTC buses on our city roads, almost all of them will have pending challans. In many buses the pending amount runs into lakhs of rupees, said M. Vinod Kanumula, chief functionary of the Indian Federation of Road Safety. The most frequent challan booked against buses is for jumping the signal and wrong parking.

Speaking about the proceedings by the traffic department, a traffic police inspector said that they send letters to the concerned depot based on the vehicle involved in the offence. The depot is then suppossed to deduct the challan from the person on duty during the time of offence.

“It is a continuous process from both the traffic police and the RTC. In the recent past, they have paid about Rs 4-5 lakh from their salaries. Still there are 300 challans that are pending on the buses,” the official said
