Villages can opt out of 24x7 power: Harish Rao

He said farmers in a village can get a resolution passed in the gram panchayat and hand it over to the local MLA.

Hyderabad: Irrigation minister T. Harish Rao on Saturday suggested to farmers who did not want 24x7 power connections to approach the local gram panchayat and get a resolution adopted to get the timings changed to the way they wanted.

He was participating in meetings with farmers in the Wardhannapet Assembly segment, and reacting to requests by local leaders to restrict the free power to farm wells to nine hours in the morning instead of 24x7 over fears of ground water depletion.

He said farmers in a village can get a resolution passed in the gram panchayat and hand it over to the local MLA.

“We will bring changes for the villages that want supply to be restricted to nine or 12 hours. Farmers who want 24x7 power will continue to get it,” the minister said.
