New panel in a functional' spot on Sabarimala

Sources at the office of the Devaswom minister Kadakampally Surendran said it was getting ready and would be released soon.

Kottayam: The government has till now not chalked out the functions of the advisory committee on Sabarimala.

Sources at the office of the Devaswom minister Kadakampally Surendran said it was getting ready and would be released soon.

Former principal secretary to the Prime Minister, T.K.A. Nair, is the chairman of the panel, formed to monitor the developmental activities. The other members are K. Manoharan, K.P. Somarajan, T. Balakrishnan and Shaji N. Karun. Mr Nair told Deccan Chronicle that the appointment order was not mentioning anything except comprehensive development in a time-bound way.

TDB commissioner Ramaraja Prasad too says they were entrusted with no specific functions other than advising on the development.

The Sabarimala master plan is under the high power committee which is already functioning. In this context, the new panel is apparently irrelevant.

Meanwhile, K. Jayakumar, former chairman of the high-powered committee, told DC that the government might have constituted the new one to exert their grip over the affairs.
