HYDERABAD: The bund at Ameenpur lake got a makeover of sorts on Sankranti as women and children of the village drew colourful delicate Rangolis all around the place. The theme for the ‘artists’ this year was nature awareness. Over 68 glittering Rangolis were drawn around the lake, even as participants competed amongst themselves for the top prize in three categories.
Tejdeep Kaur Menon, director general of police, (TSSPF) said, “All the participants stuck to the nature conservation theme of the competition by having at least one bird, tree, flower or leaf in their Rangoli to represent nature. Many children drew peacocks too.”
The TSSPF, which had adopted the Ameenpur lake, hosted the competition in collaboration with the Hyderabad Birding Pals and Friends of Flora and Fauna.
“We have decided to make it a yearly practice looking at the wide participation and enthusiasm of so many women of different ages from a village background,” said Ms Tejdeep.
