Hyderabad: The construction of an auditorium at the Jamia Nizamia seminary, planned to be completed by January-end, is unlikely to meet the deadline. The project, estimated to cost Rs14.65 crore, is funded by the Telangana State Wakf Board and is executed by the roads and buildings department.

Work on the project had started three years ago but slowed down on several occasions owing to paucity of funds. Nevertheless, after the intervention of public representatives, work commenced in October last year.

“There was a delay in release of funds in mid-2017 leading to the delay,” said roads and buildings department executive engineer S. Ashok. The work is progressing fast now and is expected to be completed by next month, he said.

The TS Wakf Board and the Jamia Nizamia seminary management had planned to inaugurate the auditorium in February to coincide with the annual ‘Urs’ of Jamia founder Hazrath Sheikh-ul-Islam Hafiz Mohammed Anwar-ullah Farooqui Fazeelath Jung.

While there are just a few weeks left for the Urs celebrations, a lot of works like construction of the elevation, flooring, electrification and plumping are yet to be done. This apart, a few other works are also lying incomplete.

“We wanted to finish the work before the Urs celebrations and hand over the auditorium to Jamia Nizamia.

But works are still going on and we hope it  is done on time,” said AIMIM’s Charminar legislator Ahmed Pasha Quadri.

TS Wakf Board chairman Mohd Saleem said, “We will inspect the premises along with the officials of the R&B department. Funds were provided in time for the project, and we will try to ensure that it is completed at the earliest.”
