Hyderabad offers another site to entice CCMB

The state government has offered alternative land for CCMB's gene research centre to prevent the project from moving out of the state.

Hyderabad: The state government has offered alternative land for CCMB’s gene research centre to prevent the project from moving out of the state.

The project was announced by the Centre in 2009 and the land was also allotted. But possession could not be given because there was a dispute over ownership of this land in Rangapur village in Bhongir.

The Centre was prepared to move the project to another state. Following a news report published in this newspaper on January 8, that TS risks losing the Rs 1,200 crore CCMB project, the TS government acted swiftly, scouted for land and found 80 acres of dispute-free government land in Pagidipally village on the city's outskirts. The government has also offered to acquire another 100 acres of private land adjacent to this and has promised to hand over the entire 180 acres to CCMB if it approves the allotment.

“We have identified 80 acres of dispute free land abutting National Highway 163 in Pagidipally village of Bhongir mandal. The land parcel is also in proximity to
Shamshabad international airport and has good air and road connectivity. We have submitted the proposal to CCMB in this regard and are ready to hand over land immediately, if it approves our proposal,” said M.V. Bhoopal Reddy, RDO, Bhongir.

Officials are also holding consultations with private land owners to acquire another 100 acres adjacent to this land parcel, if CCMB wants more land.
