Siddaramaiah promises better food, security for women's hostels
Bengaluru: A sumptuous meal and better security measures, including CCTV cameras, are on the cards at government hostels for women students as Chief Minister Siddaramaiah ordered a makeover after taking note of appalling conditions in these hostels during a review of performance of the backward classes welfare department, on Friday.
The Chief Minister also took into account a detailed report submitted by leaders of BJP women wing on dismal conditions in hostels for women students. Mrs Bharati Shetty and her team met social welfare minister H Anjaneya and submitted the report in this regard last week.
The new menu approved by the government for OBC hostels includes chicken once a fortnight, sweets once a week, and bananas and eggs on alternative days. The government also approved snacks, tea and coffee in all hostels.
Mr Siddaramaiah directed authorities of the backward classes department to install CCTV cameras in all hostels for women as well as good quality food in all OBC hostels. “I do not want any complaints on the quality of food. Release Rs five lakhs aid to OBC hostels run by private organisations immediately, and equip all hostels with libraries,” he added.
In addition, he directed the authorities concerned to identify the backlog in vacancies (posts reserved for OBCs), and to commence the process of recruitment.
The Chief Minister also directed officers to implement “Vidya Siri,” one of the flagship programmes of his government, effectively.
