Allot institutions as per their location: Telangana government
Hyderabad: The Telangana state government on Friday asked the Centre to allot common institutions listed under Schedule X of the AP Reorganisation Act to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh based on their geographical location as prescribed under Section 75 of the Act and not on the basis of ratio of population as is being demanded by AP.
The Union home ministry convened a meeting with officials of the two states in New Delhi to hear arguments on the bifurcation of 107 institutions listed under Schedule X. The home ministry stated that the oral arguments on this issue were over on Friday and asked both the states to submit arguments in written form within 10 days.
The AP government argued that the assets and liabilities of these common institutions should be bifurcated between AP and TS in the ratio of 52:48 respectively.
However, the TS government disputed this saying that this is against Section 75 of the AP Reorganisation Act. TS argued that Section 75 clearly says common institutions should be allotted to a particular state based on their geographical location.
Of the 107 institutions listed under Schedule X, 97 are located in Telangana, almost all in Hyderabad, while just 10 are located in AP. These institutes own prime properties in Hyderabad in the form of buildings and lands. AP wants distribution of assets in the ratio of population.
