Bengaluru: Asked to come to school with parents, 13-year-old hangs self
Bengaluru: A 13-year-old student killed himself after teachers scolded him and asked him to come with his parents for threatening his classmate with a knife in Halasuru police limits.
The police said the student had committed suicide by hanging himself near an unused well at his residence. When the boy was not found at home till late in the night, the parents and relatives began frantically searching for him.
In the morning, they spotted the boy hanging behind the house near a well. The police said the boy had a fight with one of his classmates and during the tussle the victim had threatened the other boy with a knife on Dec 9. This incident was taken up with the teachers who scolded him for the act. They then asked him to come with his parents to school and did not allow him to attend classes. The boy, who could not handle the pressure of facing his parents with what he had done, ended his life by hanging himself.
The parents who came to know about the reason for their son’s act squarely blamed the school authorities. They staged a protest before the school, condemning the teachers for taking a unilateral action on the issue. They demanded that the matter should have been brought to their notice.
The school authorities failed to give any explanation regarding the incident. However, they maintained that since the incident had taken place outside the school premises, they cannot issue a clarification. Halasuru police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against the school authorities and are investigating the matter.
