Digital locker aims at minimising the use of physical documents and enables sharing of e-documents across agencies.

Thiruvananthapuram: The general education department is planning to introduce digilocker facility for SSLC certificates in the light of many SSLC certificates getting damaged in the recent floods.

DPI K.V. Mohankumar in his capacity as the commissioner for public examinations has submitted a proposal for it to the general education department.
By storing the certificates in the digital format, the department can have avoid the problems in distributing them, said sources.

Digital locker aims at minimising the use of physical documents and enables sharing of e-documents across agencies. The sharing will be done through registered repositories ensuring the authenticity of the documents online. These digitally signed documents can be shared with government organisations or other entities avoiding the use of fake documents. This would reduce administrative overhead of government departments and agencies and make it easy for the residents to receive the services. It can be accessed anytime, anywhere.

The Central Board of Secondary Education has already come up with a digital academic repository called 'Parinam Manjusha,' which will allow students to find their mark sheets, pass and migration certificates online. The digitally signed copies of the statement of marks and pass certificate are available for candidates who took the ICSE and ISC examinations also through the digilocker facility. Candidates taking the ISC examination will also be provided with digitally signed copies of the migration certificate. This facility is available only for candidates who took the examinations from 2014 to 2018.
