Opposition stalls house again

He also likened opposition raising and lowering a banner in front of him to that of curtain raising for 'Kathakali' performance.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Opposition UDF stalled the Assembly proceedings on Wednesday also alleging little efforts from the part of government to end the indefinite stir by three UDF MLAs in front of the house that entered tenth-day on Wednesday.

With Opposition MLAs shouting slogans in the well of house and raising banner blocking the view of the speaker P Sreeramakrishnan, the latter adjourned the house for the day after strongly condemning the opposition for disrupting the house continuously. He also likened opposition raising and lowering a banner in front of him to that of curtain raising for 'Kathakali' performance.

Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala later told reporters that it could be for the first time that a stir by opposition MLAs in the assembly was prolonging so long. He accused Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan of maintaining a stubborn stand towards opposition's demands. "Pinarayi Vijayan was misusing power. He also faces the fate of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the people of the country would give befitting reply to such adamant stand," said Mr Chennithala.

Congress MLA V S Sivakumar, IUML MLA Parakkal Abdullah and Kerala Congress (Mani) MLA N Jayaraj launched the indefinite sit-in on December 3 demanding withdrawal of prohibitory orders at Sabarimala and ensuring proper amenities for devotees.
