Kovai lad bags bronze in kickboxing

The Wako India Senior Kickboxing Championship was organised in Kolkata recently and close to 500 sportsmen from across the country participated.

Coimbatore: At the national kickboxing tournament that he participated in, city lad M. Ranjithkumar finished third, bringing home a bronze medal.

The Wako India Senior Kickboxing Championship was organised in Kolkata recently and close to 500 sportsmen from across the country participated. This was the first national-level contest he participated, and he was determined of winning a medal. A student of Prem MMA Academy located in Kunniyamuthur here, he trained under international kickboxing coach, Prem.

Currently, doing his second year Bachelor of Commerce finance at Dr N.G.P. Arts and Science College here, Ranjithkumar is focused on making a career in kickboxing.

"I practiced for two hours in the morning before I attend college and in the evenings I visit the gymnasium. I am able to balance my time between sports and academics," the 20-year-old told DC.

In 2015, his father enrolled him in a summer camp where Ranjithkumar was introduced to kickboxing.

It was then that he discovered his passion for the sport, and since then on, there has been no looking back for him. In the five tournaments in which he represented the state, the young boy has not returned empty handed.
