Hyderabad: K. Adilaksmi, 47, from Nizamabad successfully underwent a heart transplant from a brain dead donor at a private hospital.
Adilakshmi has been suffering from heart problems since she was 21-years-old. Dr B.K.S. Sastry, a senior consultant cardiologist explained, “The patient has been on medication for last 10 years. She had undergone surgical interventions to improve the functioning of her heart but the problems culminated in the last two to three years and she was in need of a heart transplant.”
Due to organ donations and awareness, the heart transplant was possible. The donor was a 51-year-old female who died of internal bleeding.
