Backstabbing, double deals led to Congress loss

Anil Jadhav contested as an independent when the party denied him a ticket from Boath.

Adilabad: Some Congress senior leaders are facing allegations of back-stabbing their own party candidates resulting in the defeat of some Congress candidates from constituencies in old Adilabad.

It is being said that the over confidence of some candidates and the funding by opponents to defeat their own party candidates by some other leaders also contributed to the defeat of a few candidates in Adilabad.

The news making the rounds in the Congress circles is that a senior Congress leader from Nirmal district who had tried for a ticket for his supporter Anil Jadhav is facing allegations of back-stabbing the chosen party candidate, Mr Soyam Bapurao. Mr Jadhav contested as an independent when the party denied him a ticket from Boath.

During a press conference held by a few Congress leaders in Adilabad it was revealed that a Congress leader holding a top position in the party in the old Adilabad district, funded Mr Anil Jadhav against party candidate Mr Bapurao.

The same leader failed to convince his supporter to withdraw his nomination as an independent in the interest of the party. The said that leader also did nothing to stop the party leader from joining the TRS a few days after the announcement of the candidates for Mancherial.

They said that leader remained as a silent spectator and failed to protect party interest and has also caused damage to his own winning prospects with raking of a bribe issue with MIM.

No efforts were made to stop a woman leader from Asifabad and a leader from Utnoor joining the TRS though the leader tried his best to get a ticket for the daughter of a woman leader of Asifabad.

Atram Sakku of Congress won the election with just 171 votes against his nearest rival Kova Laxmi of TRS from Asifabad. Sakku is the only Congress candidate who won the election out of the ten constituencies. Premsagar Rao of Congress lost the elections by just 4,848 votes to Nadipelli Diwakar Rao of TRS in Mancherial where former MLA Aravind Reddy had joined the TRS just a few days before the polling after the party refused him a party ticket.

The issue of Congress leaders allegedly offering a bribe to MIM leaders to stop Asaduddin Owaisi from attending a meeting in Nirmal, also affected the winning chances of Congress candidate Rama Rao Patel who contested from Mudhole.

There are strong allegations that some Congress leaders had colluded with TRS and BJP candidates and worked against candidate Gandrath Sujatha who had contested from Adilabad.
