Complacency by Telangana dilutes liquor scam
Hyderabad: The complacency by the state government to take action against the accused in the liquor scam that rocked undivided AP in 2012 has tempted excise officials and liquor traders to resort to malpractices.
The ACB had named 800 excise officials in the scam and 300 officials belong to TS. So far, no action has been initiated against them. Interestingly, some of the accused have been rewarded with promotions.
The government promoted them as the TS excise employees’ association submitted a representation, stating that the government in the undivided AP deliberately booked cases against them as they participated in the Telangana statehood stir.
However, the government backtracked after Opposition parties and civil organisations raised objection. The file is now pending with the CMO, which wanted a case by case verification.
