BENGALURU: Citing several cases of women being molested during previous New Year’s eve in addition to accidents due to drunk driving, a PIL has been filed before the High Court seeking directions for ban on sale of alcohol on December 31 and January 1.
The petitioner, N. Nagesh, also said the reputation of Bengaluru city was badly hit due to series of molestation cases during the previous year's New Year celebrations.
Every year the accidents due to drunk driving has been a cause of major concern and the petitioner has sought for ban on the sale of alcohol.
The PIL has Excise department officials, top police officials and the State government as respondents. The PIL is listed for hearing on Wednesday.
Facilities at SC/ST hostels
The High Court has ordered notice to State government and others following a petition seeking directions for basic facilities at more than two thousand hostels for SC and ST students across the state.

The High Court has directed University Grants Commission (UGC) to recognise non-technical courses offered by the Karnataka State Open University for the academic year 2017-18.
