Hyderabad: The transport department has stepped up efforts to switch to 100 per cent cashless transactions in RTC by March 2017. Swiping machines are to be introduced in all RTC buses to enable passengers buy tickets through credit or debit cards. Other services of the transport department will also offer cashless payment.
Of the Rs 2,800 crore worth of transactions done by the department this year, Rs 1,431 crore was done online, putting the transport department ahead of others in this respect. Reviewing the progress of cashless transactions in the department on Monday, Transport minister P. Mahender Reddy said that all the 54 transport offices and 15 check posts will offer 100 per cent cashless services by March 2017.
“At present, RTC transactions comprise 90 per cent cash and just 10 per cent online. We want to achieve 100 per cent cashless transactions by March 2017. There has been a huge response for cashless transactions to avail RTA services as over 50 per cent of transactions are already being done in online mode,” he said. Mr Reddy said that he will be meeting RTC officials on Tuesday to discuss digitisation measures to transform RTC into a 100 per cent cashless transaction entity.
