MLAs, officials derailed land regularisation plan: Kagodu
Bengaluru: Expressing deep displeasure over not meeting his own deadline over regularising Bagair Hukum land in the state, Revenue minister, Kagodu Thimmappa on Monday rued that non-co-operation by MLAs cutting across party lines and even bureaucrats, has derailed the entire scheme for regularising bagair-hukum land.
Speaking to reporters here, Mr Thimmappa said, “It was indeed my commitment to regularise bagair hukum land by this month end. But I do not think I will ever meet this deadline. This is because of the non-co-operation by MLAs and partly by bureaucrats. I feel the time has come for politicians like us to do a rethink on our necessity in the political field. My only aim and ambition left is to regularise bagair hukum land.”
He added that almost four lakh applications seeking regularisation of Bagair hukum land are still lying pending and need the urgent attention of MLAs and bureaucrats.
Delaying tactics
“The MLAs as usual, have adopting delaying tactics and tahsildars who are supposed to take decisions, are reluctant to attend to these pending applications. The bureaucrats fear a backlash from these MLAs,” he rued.
In response to a question, Mr Thimmappa candidly admitted that when he was Speaker, his words had carried weight in the Assembly hall but as a minister, no MLA was taking him seriously. “If the same trend continues, I will have to act tough against Tahsildars who are responsible for disposing of these pending applications,” he cautioned.
