Hyderabad: Cops identify minor SUV driver, teen absconding

Police identified the boy as a 16 year-old studying in Bhashyam School in Nizampet.

Hyderabad: The Cyberabad police has identified the teen who drove the SUV, which led to an accident injuring a techie and his wife in Bachupally on Sunday. They are yet to apprehend him as he is absconding.

Police said that if they trace the teen they can identify other boys who were with him in the car.

Nagendrababu who was injured in the accident is recovering while his wife Devi is still unconscious and her condition is critical.

Police identified the boy as a 16 year-old studying in Bhashyam School in Nizampet.

“We identified the boy who was driving the vehicle, but he is still at large. If he is traced we can trace the other boys who were with him when the incident happened and we can get more details on the incident,” Bachupally Inspector K Balakrishna Reddy said.

The boy is the elder son of Ramsekhar, a farmer turned businessman from Bodhan in Nizamabad district, and is staying with his uncle’s family in Nizampet and studying here. His father purchased the SUV from one Krishna of ECIL area nearly a year ago but the documentation process was not completed due to which the car’s registration is still in Krishna's name.

On Friday, Ramsekhar sent the vehicle to Hyderabad for servicing and some minor repairs. After repairs, when the vehicle was kept at his uncle's home, the boy took it out for a drive. After leaving home, he picked up five friends, who were his classmates and they were proceeding towards Bachupally.

“When he saw the crowd on the road at Mithila Nagar in Pragathi Nagar, he panicked and lost control of the vehicle. Instead of applying brakes, he may have stepped on the accelerator leading to the accident,” police said.

Police said they have registered a case under the Motor Vehicle Act against Ramsekhar for letting his minor son drive the vehicle.
