Kannada Sahitya Sammelana in Kalaburagi from February 5

Around 75,000 to 80,000 people are expected to attend the three-day event.

Kalaburagi: The 85th edition of Akhila Bharat Kannada Sahitya Sammelana, a three-day literary festival will be held here from February 5.

According to Mr Manu Baligar, President of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat, the mega event will be held at the Gulbarga University campus. Mr Baligar, who held preparatory meetings on Monday and Tuesday, said that the dates and the venue for the event were finalised after holding discussions with litterateurs, activists, district authorities and police officers at the Deputy Commissioner`s office.

Around 75,000 to 80,000 people are expected to attend the three-day event. "Considering the availability of space and other facilities, the Gulbarga University campus has been found to be ideal for organising the event", Mr Baligar said.

Replying to a query, he said that around 750 stalls including bookstalls and commercial stalls and 150 food counters will be opened to cater to public needs. The total expense is estimated at approximately Rs 12 crore, which would be borne by the State government.

Dr Baligar said that the Parishat will soon convene a meeting of the state body's executive committee and select the president of the 85th Sammelana before December.
