Hyderabad: Three youngsters who went to take a holy dip at a canal on Karthika Purnima day on Tuesday drowned at Varikolu in Siddipet district.
Siddipet additional DCP (Law and order) G. Narsimha Reddy said that at around 9 am, seven youngsters hailing from Varikolu in Koheda mandal came to the Moyathummida canal to take a holy bath.
Four youngsters who knew swimming went into the water while their three friends K. Nikhil, 19, K. Prashant, 20, and P. Varaprasad, 18, who did not know how to swim, followed them. Some time later, the trio went missing in the water and their friends alerted the locals who rushed to the rescue. After searching in the canal for some time, they pulled out the bodies of Nikhil, Prashant, and Varaprasad.
A case has been registered for the probe at Koheda police station and the bodies were handed over to the kin of the deceased after the autopsy, he said.
