Chennai: The Chengalpattu-Beach EMUs got delayed for nearly an hour after a rail fracture was detected on the track between Tambaram and Tambaram Sanitarium on Monday morning. This caused trains to be halted during the peak hour.
According to sources, the train from Chengalpattu-Beach at around 8 am was stopped at Tambaram station. The disruption not only affected rail commuters but motorists on roads as thousands of people started using other modes of transport to reach their destinations.
Office goers and students suffered to reach their destinations. According to a senior railway official, the trains started moving at around 9.15 am after the maintenance workers rectified the technical snag. It is said that on the wee hours of Tuesday the rail track would be rectified permanently.
