Reddy said that the people-friendly policing concept practised by the Hyderabad police will be introduced effectively across the state.

Hyderabad: The state police will focus on prevention of crime to provide a safe Telangana to the people, said M. Mahender Reddy, Director General of Police (incharge) who assumed charge on Sunday.

A 1986 batch officer, Mr Reddy took charge as the second DGP of Telangana state from Anurag Sharma, who retired on superannuation and will soon take over as adviser to the government (home).

Interacting with the press after assuming charge, Mr Reddy said that the people-friendly policing concept practised by the Hyderabad police will be introduced effectively across the state.

“About 10 lakh closed circuit cameras will be installed across the state for prevention of crime and providing a sense of security and safety to the public,” he said.

Improving policing priority: DGP
Improving policing in the state, especially in rural areas, will be a priority, he said. Programmes to motivate the police machinery will also be started across the state in a phased manner, the DGP said.

Uniform policing will be done in commissionerates, urban areas and rural areas, he said. The response time will also be brought down to five minutes across the state, irrespective of the area being rural or urban,” he assured.

“Constables will be given various responsibilities and we will write to the government about designating the constables as ‘constable officers’ so that they feel a sense of pride and responsibility,” he said.
