Hyderabad: The onset of winter has led to increased problems for residents staying near industrial areas especially at Miyapur, Nizampet, Kazipally and Bachupally. A heavy chemical odour permeates the air in these areas. Residents are complaining of recurring headaches and nausea. Pollution Control Board officials say that the stench grows worse in winter because of inversion which is a condition where the odour from the emissions cannot disperse and hangs in the air. Residents of Miyapur say that the industrial odour from their residential areas has reached the metro station as well.
Sreenivas Vinod, a resident of Miyapur, says, “The industrial odour has spread to areas such as Hitec City and Chandanagar as well. No action is being taken but the impact of this smell cannot be ignored. We have been constantly complaining to PCB officials but they claim that their hands are tied as they are unable to pinpoint the specific industries on the basis of the odour.” Residents have decided to take to Twitter and have tweeted to KTR regarding the problem. Jagadeesh Babu, a resident of Nizampet tweeted, to KTR and also tagged the TSPCB handle stating, “Sir, pungent smell never stops in Nizampet. If needed, we will beg in Nizampet and give money to stop this.”
A few other residents of the area have also tweeted. There are some that say that while the IT corridor decks up for Ivanka Trump's arrival, she will not be able to enjoy the beautiful sight of Hussain Sagar with the horrible industrial smell emanating from the lake. PCB officials say that the stench from the lake is due to the drainage water and other waste dumped into the water. Residents have asked KTR to push the PCB officials to take strict action against the industries dumping untreated waste in the waters or/and not treating their emissions by passing it through a condenser.
