Maoists were beaten back, could not regroup: Anurag Sharma

He professed himself to be a satisfied man after serving 35 years in the police department.

Hyderabad: Mr Anurag Sharma, whose term as Director-General of Police ended on Sunday, said that the state police had a firm grip on the Maoist movement and ensured that it was not revived after the state of Telangana was formed.

“There were apprehensions about the revival of the Maoist movement after Telangana state was formed. We had worked out strategies and ensured that it did not happen. It will not revive in the future too,” he said confidently.

Recalling the work of the Greyhounds — the elite anti-extremist wing of the state police — Mr Sharma said that the unit played an important role in intelligence gathering and anti-extremist operations across the state.

He professed himself to be a satisfied man after serving 35 years in the police department. “I am a satisfied, contented and happy man,” he said.

Mr Sharma was accorded a farewell by police officials at the Raja Bahadur Venkata Rama Reddy Telangana State Police Academy on Sunday morning. A general salute was given to him by the polcie contingents.
