Hyderabad: NIMS locks toilets for attendants
Hyderabad: Both male and female lavatories on the first, second and third floors in the new block of NIMS Hospital have been locked to prevent patient’s attendants from using them. The new block has three units of cardiology on the first, second and third floors. There is a constant rush of patients in these floors and it was found that the bathrooms are locked. When contacted, the NIMS resident medical officer washed his hands, and said that he was not aware who locked them and for what reasons.
A senior cardiologist at NIMS hospital said, “There are toilets for attendants of patients in the basement. But a patient is often accompanied by two to three people. It is causing many difficulties. Interestingly, there is no toilet for doctors and the staff in this block. Hence one toilet on the third floor is set aside for them.”
The basic amenities are a major issue at NIMS hospital as large number of patients troop to the hospital for treatment. The paramedical staff and security guards are known for their rude ways. Senior citizens and women have problem as they are not able to access the facilities. However, the medical superintendent of NIMS was not available for comment.
