Bengaluru: 1-way traffic in Manyata now
BENGALURU: Just three days after Kannada superstar Shivarajkumar met the Home Minister and complained about the traffic woes faced by the residents of Manyata Residency in Manyata Tech Park, the city police have issued orders implementing one-way traffic in the locality between 5.30 pm and 8.30 pm.
Actor Shivarajkumar along with other members of the Manyata Residency Welfare Association had met Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy on Tuesday. They had submitted a petition complaining that roads at the residential locality was being choked every day, due to manifold increase in vehicular traffic over the years.
The residents had demanded an immediate relief and requested restriction on the movement of vehicles. Following this, Mr Reddy had visited the spot for inspection on Thursday.
On Friday, City Police Commissioner T. Suneel Kumar issued orders implementing one-way traffic from Gate no. 3 to 5 of the Manyata Tech Park on weekdays, with immediate effect.
The police said there were about 53 companies that have thousands of employees in Manyata Tech Park. Listing out the number of vehicles, the police stated that 19,787 two-wheelers, 9,387 private cars, 4,499 cabs, 303 tempo travellers, 24 buses run by various companies, and 95 BMTC buses - a total of 34,095 vehicles - were plying from 5 pm to 9 pm on weekdays.
“These vehicles pass through Gate no. 1, 2 and 3 towards Gate no. 5 to exit from the Tech Park. As Gate no. 3 and 5 is very much in the residential layout, the increased vehicle population had inconvenienced hundreds of residents, as they could not come out of their locality. Thus, a one-way traffic has been implemented on the stretch from Gate no. 3 to Gate no. 5 on weekdays between 5.30 pm and 8.30 pm," the order stated.
The measure, however, is said to provide temporary relief and a permanent solution would be implemented after meeting with all the stakeholders, sources added.
