Telangana: Rs 66 crore in kitty, civic body keeps its counters open
Hyderabad: The GHMC received Rs 11.66 crore in demonetised Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes towards property tax. The total collection in two days amounted to Rs 66.36 crore. GHMC, Mee Seva and e-Seva counters will operate on Sunday and Monday to accept the old notes, after the Centre extended the deadline on Friday. All the citizens services centres will work from 8 am and 9 pm.
GHMC commissioner Dr B. Janardhan Reddy said over 30,000 taxpayers had paid property tax. Of the total, 21,000 paid less than Rs 10,000. 6,854 paid amounts ranging between Rs 10,000 and Rs 50,000, and 1,993 between Rs 1 and 2 lakh. He said 288 people had paid in between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 5 lakh. Over 38 paid more than Rs 5 lakh as property tax. He appealed to taxpayers to make use of the opportunity to pay their tax and clear arrears.He said there was no chance of reviewing of penalty as was done earlier. Owners must pay their property tax immediately to avoid the 24 per cent penalty that will be levied in the near future.
With regard to Hydera-bad Metropolitan Development Authority, applicants can clear land regularisation and NALA tax dues using old notes at designated banks. Officials said the HMDA’s help desk would be kept open for land regularisation applicants to approach for guidance and e-payment advice. The TS Southern Distribution Company Limited said domestic consumers could pay their electricity bills at any of the counters in the electricity offices which would remain open on Sunday.
Discom officials said as per the instructions, payment in old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes would be accepted but only for domestic power bills and not for commercial and industrial electricity bills. While the response was huge on Friday, there were fewer consumers at the counters on Saturday.
