Protests in Tamil Nadu, Telangana by opposition against note ban

The withdrawal of high-value bills was undertaken without application of mind and proper planning, Uttam Kumar Reddy said.

Chennai/Hyderabad: CPI(M) on Sunday said it would stage protests across Tamil Nadu on November 16 to urge the Centre to allow usage of the scrapped 500 and 1000 rupee notes until alternative arrangements were made for smooth availability of currency.

Stating that it’s Polit Bureau has given a call for nation-wide agitations to permit using scrapped notes, CPI (M) State Secretary G Ramakrishnan said here that its special meet at Tirunelveli has decided to hold protests in the State.

"Protest demonstrations will be held on November 16 in all the district headquarters and in other places. CPI(M)appeals to people to support the agitations to be held for safeguarding the people's interests," he said in a statement.

Telangana Congress also announced it will organise demonstrations against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Centre across all district headquarters tomorrow over the issue.

"Demonetisation has brought misery to the poor, middle class and housewives. Congress is against black money but the manner in which Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes have been cancelled it has only created chaos in the country," Telangana Pradesh Congress President Uttam Kumar Reddy said.

The withdrawal of high-value bills was undertaken without application of mind and proper planning, he said.

"To protest the decision, demonstrations will be organised tomorrow against Modi and the Central Government in all district headquarters," Reddy said.
